'The Equilibrium of Flight'

Craf-'TEA' Break
noun [cr, ah, fu - Tee, brae, k]
A craft or crafty pursuit that can be completed in one sitting of tea drinking.
Example - "Today I took a Craf-'TEA Break and made..."

I decided to have a little rummage around in my Crafty Creatives stash today...I should have been tidying my craft area but got a bit distracted by paper and sparkly things!

I pulled out  a sheet of the nautical paper from box 2 and my eyes immediately fell on the word 'equillibrium'. I love words like this, they sound more non-nonsensical the more you say them.

I've been thinking of a few ways to use the wings pendant from Crafty Creatives 4th box and although it's a pretty tentative link I decided to create am 'Equillibrium of Flight' keyring (as you can't have flight without a perfect equilibrium of's a stretch of an interpretation I know!)

I started by  tracing around the glass cabochon to get a rough idea of the shape I'd need to cut, I had to trim it up a little to get it to fit in the pendant. I glued the paper to the pendant base and then placed a small blob of glue in the centre of the paper and pressed the cabochon into place.

I added a keyring and clasp to the wings pendant and then a jump ring to the bottom loop, attached the 'equillibrium' pendant and Voila!...

It's Official!

I am very pleased to announce that I am now an...

If you haven't heard of Tilda before you are seriously missing out, it is a brand I have loved for years but it's notoriously expensive to import/buy in the UK so you can imagine my excitment when I got myself a wholesale account with the UK Tilda Distributor.
Rest assured I'll be passing on the benefit of these wholesale savings on to my customers, I'm positive that you're going to love the fabric selections as much as I do!

At the moment I'm stocking a selection of items from the latest Winter 2012 collection but will soom be bringing in a larger selection from previous seasons.

"Tilda is a craft brand started by the Norwegian designer Tone Finnanger in 1999.
Tilda is most known for the whimsical, comical and naive characters in the form of animals and dolls. Tilda's world is without a doubt a feminine one, and the most recognisable features are the faces, with two dots for eyes and rosy cheeks"

Bag Bling

Craf-'TEA' Break
noun [cr,ah, fu - Tee, brae, k]
A craft or crafty pursuit that can be completed in one sitting of tea drinking.
Example - "Today I took a Craf-'TEA Break and made..."

I am fully suffering from a head cold and sinus infection at the moment so rather than do the hoovering or housework (like I should be before my night shift starts...) I decided I would plonk myself on the sofa, with a cuppa, find something to watch on the Sky planner and play with one of the items from this month Crafty Creatives box!

I've got a lovely bag from Zara that has fortunately seen better days, I recently fixed the lining which had come away from the inside and decided it could do with a bit more TLC.

The silver studs match well with the look of the bag, one of the main reasons I bought it was for it slightly punky/grunge feel so I thought why not grunge it up some more with studs!

They pushed through the fabric really easily and it was just a case of folding closed the little legs with jewellery pliers.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out, not bad for a tea break!

Crafty Creatives Box #4 - Gothic

"Unleash your inner dark side with Octobers gothic box! With a little nod to Halloween, we've packed it full of decadent and delectable goodies"

This months box included...
  • Art Card by featured artist Carrion House
  • CC Kit! This months kit gives all the supplies needed to make a masquerade mask - I can't wait to give this a go
  • 3 large purple resin flower beads
  • 1 large silver winged pendant - This is a bit too big for a necklace pendant for me so I think I might use this as a bag charm or a key ring.
  • 1 glass cabochon with gothic frame setting - I've been wanting to try out crafting with glass cabochons for ages, I'll have to find an extra special paper to use this with
  • 8 mini skull beads - I LOVE these, I've been lusting over these beads for ages. In fact I love them so much I'm going to stock them in the shop soon!
  • 10 silver studs -  Already got a great idea for these...
  • 4 meters (2m of each color) of satin and organza ribbon - I got burgundy satin ribbon and navy blue organza ribbon
  • Vintage gothic and Halloween pictures
  • 2 gothic windows
  • 50cm strip of spiderweb mesh - This is a really interesting fabric, not sure what I'd use it for but looking forward to having a play around with it
  • 2 decorative ring blanks
  • Bundle of cruelty free feathers
  • 2 mini gothic keys - Lovely little charm sized keys, ideal for a delicate necklace design
  • 1 fat quarter of black lace - I'd really like to combine this lace with some hessian...not sure what I'll make but it will definitely combine those two things.
  • 50cm black non-woven fabric- Think I might use this for some card making, it seems to be quite similar to mulberry paper but a little bit thicker, hoping I can pull it out into fibres - I'll report back on my findings soon!
Do you subscribe to Crafty Creatives? What did you think of this months box? Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what I can make?
Want to get your hands on one of the items from this months box?
There is a now a Crafty Creatives 'Trading Post' Facebook page where fellow crafters can swap/sell/buy items from previous boxes!

Sprinkle, Sparkle, GLITTER!

Who doesn't love playing with glitter early on a Tuesday morning? (Apart from The Boyfriend when he sees the mess I've made...)

I've been busy working away and adding items to the shop, which I'll be showcasing later this week, and perfecting the instructions for my first DIY kit so I thought I deserved a bit of time with a big pot of pink glitter!
One of the things I actually love most about glitter is trying to photograph it, it's so difficult to show the depth and the shimmer but it's the perfect excuse to have a play with it!

I've also re-joined my friends on the is you love crafts and aren't a member there already you really should be. Some of my best crafty friends have been made on there and the other members are a wealth of knowledge on all kinds of craft mediums.

Packaging Preparations

I've been working on my first DIY kit for the shop (it's top secret at the moment but will be sharing with you all in early November!) but I've been a bit stuck with how I'm going to package it.
The rest of the kit is pretty much sorted bar some instruction writing, felt cutting and of course the packaging. I can't wait for you to see them them - I think they're adorable and hope you will too!

I decided that pillow boxes were the way to go but I could only find them in plain old white which is a little bit boring, they've got a glossy finish so I couldn't stamp onto them so I decided to dig out my stash of tags and get a bit stamp happy on those instead.

Obviously they'd still look a bit bland even with a tag stuck on the front but by the time I finished colouring these in it was time to start dinner so my packaging preparations will have to continue another day...

Welcome to Musha-Makes!

This post feels like it has been a VERY long time coming (if we're being precise and a bit pedantic it's probably been about 4 years in the making from the first budding of the idea!)
For the past few months I have worked tirelessly on finding suppliers and negotiating deals, taking product photos, editing HTML, creating cash flow spreadsheets, recruiting product testers, quizzing knitting/sewing/jewellery/basically any crafting experts to be able to sit down this morning with a cup of tea and press the launch button on my biggest project to date.

I am very pleased to announce that the
Musha-Makes Shop
(and blog)
is now
officially open!

And, as a nice little opening bonus I am offering Free Shipping on UK orders over £25.00 if you enter the code 'FREESHIP' at the checkout!
